These photos were created in response to South Carolina’s hesitation to remove the confederate battle flag from the statehouse following the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church massacre in July of 2015. The photos with the flag on fire were taken in front of the former Smith Furniture Building in downtown Ypsilanti, MI, which sat vacant and deteriorating for more than a decade.
