CRT (Critical Race Tube)
The only major flaw with Critical Race Theory is that it’s not a theory at all. Policy and bias, conscious or not, influence every institution and many day-to-day interactions in the United States of America. The public education system is one example with fairly uncomplicated numbers to track.
From Schools of Choice programs, to vouchers and federal educational savings accounts, to charter schools, each state has mechanisms that lead to segregation in schools. In Ypsilanti, Michigan, it was the steady stream of students who left that forced two districts to consolidate and flipped the majority of the student population from white to Black. Because the money follows the student, it created a “death spiral” for the districts due to funding loss related to the flight.
In 2016 in Diamondale, Michigan, presidential nominee Donald Trump made a pitch for the Black vote by telling the nearly all white crowd:
"You’re living in poverty, your schools are no good. You have no jobs, 58 percent of your youth is unemployed, what the hell do you have to lose?”
This extreme form of “othering” implies that majority Black school districts belong entirely to the Black community, including all the manufactured challenges. It completely disregards that school districts are in the situations they are because of a funding model with no safeguard for racial bias.
