Contextment Chamber, 2024
The Contextment Chamber is a bare-hand iris port containment chamber with the book Abraham Lincoln by Ingri and Edgar Parin d’ Aulaire inside. This particular book sat on the school library shelf as late as 2013 in the now defunct school district I received it from. While the text and illustrations are white-washed and deeply problematic, removing this book and those like it from schools altogether risks denying this type of education ever took place and could compromise efforts for understanding. Therefore offering such books requires context and a safe viewing distance.
